Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the Australian citizenship test?
- It is the test you sit to become an Australian citizen. It covers Australia and its people, our democratic beliefs, rights and liberties, government and the law, and Australian values — the four examinable parts of the official booklet, Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond.
- How many questions are on the test?
- Twenty, in 45 minutes. There are two conditions and you must meet both: at least 15 of the 20 correct, AND all five Australian values questions correct. Nineteen out of twenty with one values question wrong is a fail.
- How much does the test cost?
- There is no separate fee for the test — it is part of your citizenship application fee. The Department of Home Affairs books your appointment.
- Is this website free?
- Yes. The study guide and the practice questions are free. The app adds spaced repetition and removes ads for A$0.99 a month.
- How long should I study?
- Most people study for two to four weeks. Half an hour a day with the study guide and the practice questions is enough for most.
- Can I study offline?
- The study pages work well on a phone browser. Save a page for offline reading, or use the app, which works with no connection at all.
- What are the Australian values questions?
- Five of the twenty questions come from the Australian values part of the booklet. They are marked in this site's study guide and practice modes. You must answer all five correctly, whatever your overall score.
- What if I fail?
- You can sit the test again. The Department of Home Affairs books a new appointment, and there is no extra fee for a re-sit within your application.
